When do I send out my wedding invitation?
Wedding invitations should generally be sent out 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding. However, there are a few factors to consider that might affect the timing:
General Timeline:
6 to 8 Weeks Before the Wedding: This is the standard time frame to send invitations, giving guests plenty of time to RSVP and make arrangements.
Special Considerations:
Destination Weddings: If you’re having a destination wedding, send your invitations 3 to 4 months in advance (or earlier). Guests will need extra time to make travel arrangements, book accommodations, and request time off work.
Save the Dates: If you’re sending Save the Date cards, these should go out 6 to 12 months before the wedding, especially if it’s a destination wedding or during a busy season (holidays or summer). This allows guests to block off their calendars and plan ahead.
Local vs. Out-of-Town Guests: For local weddings, the standard 6-8 weeks is fine, but for out-of-town guests, you may want to send invitations closer to the 8-week mark to give them more time to plan.
RSVP Deadline: Set the RSVP deadline for 3 to 4 weeks before the wedding. This gives you time to finalize numbers with the caterer and seating arrangements, and follow up with anyone who hasn’t responded.
Optional Pre-Invitations:
Wedding Website: You can also share key details earlier through a wedding website, which can include accommodation info, the event schedule, and other important updates.
